Watchet 2nd XI v Temple Cloud 2nd XI

Saturday saw Watchet 2nd XI play host to Temple Cloud 2nd XI for the first time in many a year. Watchet winning the toss gave the visitors first knock on what looked like a good hard flat wicket. As in the previous weeks game, Chris Wookey got straight in to his act by yorking Webb with the third ball. The score edged up to 14 by the 10th over when Callum Knight got his reward for his tight bowling by clean bowling Appleyard for 4. Taylor Maddock replaced Knight and he and Wookey ripped out the middle order to leave Temple Cloud at 58 for 6 after 24 overs. 13 year old G.James joined his skipper Rob Newmarsh at the crease and these two started playing their shots and the pair took the total to 121 before Simon Chilcott had the latter caught by Nick (No hands) Richards. Chilcott then had James well caught by Adam Bishop in the deep for a fine 43 on his debut and with Callum Knight finishing the innings 4 balls later Watchet were set a target of 138 to win.

With a few spots of rain in the air, both Watchet’s openers Pete Manley and Adam Bishop set about the visitors bowling and found the boundary at regular intervals. Bishop using his feet very well showed real maturity by picking the gaps in the field and the pair passed 50 in the 10th over. Manley was finally adjudged L.B.W for 37 with the score on 86 and Bishop fell just 1 run later for a fine 45.

Chris Wookey and Nick Richards, pictured right, continued where the openers had started and had few problems reaching the target with 24 overs to spare.
