North Petherton 2nd XI V Watchet 2nd XI

Watchet Second string got back to winning ways on Saturday, with a comprehensive 8-wicket victory against 2nd in the table North Petherton. On a fine and warm Saturday Watchet turned up to play at Petherton's impressive new ground, and on winning the toss inserted the home side on what seemed to be a flat track.

As in previous weeks Watchet's bowlers were in fine form as the openers found very few opportunities to find the boundary. In the 12 th over Andrew Martin bowled Harris to end his spell with a deserved wicket. Taylor Maddock replaced Martin and soon had L. Williams back in the pavilion trapped L.B.W. Dave Milton bowled his 12 overs straight through for only 34 runs and he removed Derbridge in the 20 th over when Pete Manley held on to a steepling catch. Andy Pyne carried on where Milton had left bowling well to his field and with the hosts now in need of quick runs Martin Ketchin's quick hands stumped Jevis and repeated this 2 overs later for Aaron Nunn. Pyne, Nunn and Maddocks all picked up further wickets to leave a target 135.

In reply the visitors only needing 3 runs per over set their stool out with Manley playing the anchor roll and Benny Saddington the aggressor took the total to 23 before the later was bowled for a hard-hit 19. In form Ketchin smashed his first ball to the boundary to show his intensions and he and the skipper took the score to 59 before he got a “good-un” from Young Tom Smith. With Manley starting to find his touch & Maddock carrying on the aggressor role, Watchet raced past 100 in the 25 th over, and 3 overs later Maddock hit the winning boundary to finish on 49 not out with Manley 35 not out.
