Watchet 1st XI losing their opening home game. On a freezing cold afternoon Watchet took first knock. Watchet's opening comination consisted of father and son combination of Edward and Andrew Martin.
They took the score to 25 against some very accurate bowling before Andrew was bowled for 9. Matt Lovell came in and was soon trapped LBW. The inform Martyn Ketchen joined Martin and Ketchen began to hit the ball well. Edward Martin was next to go caught and bowled for 28. Ketchen was joined by skipper Martin Strong who was soon caught at square leg for 2. Chris Wookey looked the part hitting a couple of fine boundaries. Ketchen was bowled for a fine 25 and Wookey soon followed. The innings then faded away with Watchet all out for 116. After tea defending such a small total, Watchet had a dream start with Liam Woolgrove hiittng the stumps with the second ball of the innings. He then followed up with another clean bowled. The rain game and after a lengthy delay with the Outcasts losing 12 overs from their allotted 45. Dom Bowden joined in with two wickets and Woolgrove struck again getting a caught behind. This left the Outcasts on 46 for 5. At this stage Watchet should have seized the initiative. However, Woolgrove reached the end of his allotted 12 overs and had to be replaced by Matt Lovell. Immedately the hard hitting Mason took a like to Lovell's bowling. Lovell's two overs went for 31 runs. This left the Outcasts comfortable victors by five wickets. Watchet collected eleven points for their afternoon's work. |
