Winscombe 2nd XI v Watchet 2nd XI

Watchet second string enjoyed their biggest win of the season, when they travelled to Winscombe on Saturday.

Winning the toss and putting the home side into bat on a very sticky wicket, seemed to backfire when Chris “wide” Wookey found conditions difficult under foot and proceeded to bowl an eleven ball over!

Things started to pick up when Paul Jones took a smart catch to dismiss Hall without troubling the scorers. 

Wookey was back in the action in the next over taking a fine slip catch inches off the ground to give Andy Milton his first victim. 

With all the home batsmen in 20-20 mode of batting, it wasn’t long before Wookey had Shepherd caught by Saddington, followed up by a fine catch by Pete “gloves” Manley to dismiss the dangerous Pete Searle. 

Milton not to be out shone soon had Manley clutching another full-length diving catch, before bowling the aggressive Merv Brean. 

Wookey celebrated his 5 wicket haul with the words “bowled him” before Jamie Milton took the catching awards himself with a pair of fine catches, to leave Wookey with figures of 6 for 48 and Milton 4 for 23. 

The home side were dismissed for a meagre total of 74 off just 21.4 overs.

In reply Watchet’s openers Pete Manley and Warren Knight put on 20 before Knight who played some fine strokes in his eleven drove the ball straight back to Shepherd. 

Manley was next to go adjudged leg before off Breen. This brought Wookey in to Join Taylor Maddock, he soon started hitting the ball to all parts of the ground to see the visitors home by 8 wickets and 25 overs to spare.
