Wembdon 2nd XI v Watchet 2nd XI 

Watchet 2nd XI travelled to Wembdon on Saturday and lost a close game by just 7 runs.  

The hosts batted first and 18 runs were on the board when Chris Wookey had Gliddon caught behind by Manley. The eleventh over saw the introduction of Taylor Maddock who struck with his first ball, bowling Paull. 

With the total on 65, Ryan Strong got his just reward for a fine spell when Manley whipped off the bails to stump Phillips. With opener Steve Pigden still at the crease aided by cross, Whiterod and Rob Manley, Wembdon increased the scoring rate to finish with a total of 191 for 8 after there allotted overs, with Pigden finnally being bowled by Wookey for 84.   

Watchet’s reply had moved to 12 when Adam Bishop holed out to mid on. Manley and Chris Bishop took it on to 46 by the 15th over when Rawles bowled the latter. Manley & Wookey added 8 more before the skipper was again bowled round his legs. Wookey followed soon after, again to Rawles and with the loss of both Paul Jones, Dosser Norman and Dave Milton, Watchet required 92 off the last 14 overs.  

Vice captain Maddocks was joined by Chris Cooke who together began to build a usefull partnership, with some good hittng and great running the winning total came closer. A spanner was put in the works when Cooke required a runner after hitting his own ankle with his bat and he eventually fell with 31 needed from 4.5 overs.  

Ryan Strong kept the momentum going with Maddock but with the last over remaining, Watchet still needed 9 with the last pair at the crease. A fine over was bowled by Manley, which left Maddock not out on 32 and Watchet 7 runs short.
