Watchet v South Petherton 20th May 2006

 

Watchet were on the wrong end of a low scoring and bizarre match at home to South Petherton in Division 2.

 

Only one player made double figures - a hard hit 49 - by South Petherton captain Kevin Harris.

 

Watchet reduced the visitors to 45 for 8 as Mat Lovell (right) destroyed the top order, taking the first 5 wickets for 30 runs off his 12 overs.

 

Phil Sylvester chipped in with 3 for 23 but thanks to Harris the visitors reached 93.

 

Watchet then suffered as both opening bowlers took early wickets and they were shot out for 45 - their lowest total for 16 years.

 

South Petherton: 93 (K Harris 49, M Lovell 5-30, P Sylvester 3-56).

 

Watchet: 45 (I Masters 6-18, C Anderson 3-14).

Fitzhead v Whitchurch

 

Fitzhead's new signing Mark Hannaford, who has previously played for neighbours Milverton, was quickly into his stride and hit a six early on in his innings to help bring up the 50 in the eighteenth over, but three runs later the hosts lost Maurice Burns for 18.

 

Hannaford went on to bring up his maiden half century for the club, before having to retire hurt on 54, but supported by Neil Hendy who made 44 and an unbeaten 47 from Chris Cherry the hosts ended on 219 for 7.

 

In reply Whitchurch were dismissed for 176. Tucker top scored with 60 and shipper James Gammon made 43. For Fitzhead there were two wickets each for Lawrence, Darren and Maurice Burns as well as a brace for Luke Thomas.

 

Burnham-on-Sea v Brent Knoll

 

Burnham-on-Sea had the better of their near neighbours Brent Knoll when the two sides met at the BASC Ground in Stoddens Road. After being put into bat by the visitors, Burnham-on-Sea scored 234 for 5, thanks to Nyan Karmaker who hit an unbeaten 97 and 62 from former skipper Graham Puddy. For Brent Knoll, Phillips captured three wickets for three runs.

 

In reply the visitors were all out for 12.
