Watchet 2nd XI v Wellington 2nd XI

A young Watchet 2nd X1 played host to Wellington at the Memorial ground and came away with a fine 21 run victory.

With 6 of the side under 18, Watchet lost the toss and were asked to bat. Pete Manley was bowled for 4 with the fifth ball of the innings, two of which were head high beamers! Watchet were soon 10 for 2 then 35 for 3.

Chris Wookey and Chris Bishop took the score to 64. Bishop and Saddington then took the score to 95 before Bishop played on. 48 runs were added in the next 8 overs by Saddington and Andy Milton to leave the hosts at 143 for 6 with 17 overs remaining. Taylor Maddock was in fine form with the bat. Saddington was bowled for 44. Maddock then added another 20 with Jamie Milton again before the latter was bowled. Ryan strong now joined Maddock and this pair put on 60 vital runs to take the game out of the visitors reach and leave Watchet on 235 all out in 43 overs.

Wellington never really threatened Watchet’s total and just seemed content to get the maximum batting points. With all of the Home sides' bowlers in good form, on what was now a perfectly flat track wickets were hard to come by. Andy Milton on his return to the side took 2, with Wookey and Maddock 1 a piece. Coleman batted the whole Wellington innings for 74 and Jones chipped in with a useful 48.
