Watchet 2nd XI v Long Sutton 2nd XI

On Saturday Watchet's 2nd XI clinched a close one-wicket victory at home to Long Sutton's second string in their first fixture of the new season.

Watchet won the toss and elected to field, and a fine bowling display from an attack whose oldest player was 17 meant that Long Sutton were bowled out for a below-par 151, with Tayler Maddock the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 36, four of which were bowled.

In reply Watchet's innings was a stop-start affair, held together by Andrew Norman's 40, with some injudicious shots meaning they kept losing wickets at vital times. However, they were always ahead of the run rate and with 13 overs remaining they were well set on 118-5. Wickets then fell at an alarming rate with Chris Bishop ninth to fall, unluckily bowled with just two required after a patient 37. Sutton were unable to break through again though and the final pair managed to scamble the winning runs to secure victory for their side.

Long Sutton II 151 (D Lazaridas 40, T Maddock 5-36) Watchet II 152-9 (A Norman 40, C Bishop 37, B Terrell 4-32)

Points: Watchet 2nd XI 33, Long Sutton 2nd XI 16
