Watchet 2nd XI v Burnham 2nd XI

Watchet 2nd X1 played host to Burnham on Sunday and came away with a 6-wicket victory. Winning the toss and putting the visitors in on a bone hard flat track, keeping the score down was the main order of the day. Both opening bowlers Chris Wookey and Jason Strong did this with great affect and Strong was rewarded in the 10th over having Birkett caught behind by Pete Manley. N. Karmarker Burnhams over sea’s player was the main stay of the visitors innings hitting the ball cleanly and he and Sam Walker took the score to 121 after 28 overs before Karmarker didn’t pick Taylor Maddock’s “wrong-un “ bowling him round his legs. With Watchet’s fielding on top form and the tight bowling of Ryan Strong, Dave Milton and Maddock the total only progressed slowly with Maddock ,Wookey and J.Strong  picking up a wicket a-piece the final total set was 184.

The home sides reply got off to a swift start with Adam Bishop hitting the ball hard being ably supported by his skipper Pete Manley. 47 runs were on the board when Bishop holed out to mid-on, and Chris Sully joined Manley at the crease. This pair took the total to 102 with Manley passing his 50 before Sully again was caught. Manley and Wookey then Took the score to 130 when the skipper played a tired shot and was bowled for a fine 70. Jason Strong and Wookey to within 8 runs before both fell and it was left to the veteran pair of Dave Milton and Paul Jones to see Watchet home with 5 overs to spare.
