Watchet 2nd XI v Butleigh 2nd XI Watchet 2nd
x1 traveled to Butleigh on Saturday and came away with a rain affected
draw. Traveling up in the rain play was unable to start until 2.45 and
the game reduced to 40 overs a side. The home side elected to bat and
both openers found scoring difficult due to some fine bowling from Chris
Wookey and the fit again Ryan Strong.
The total had moved to 37 when an excellent catch by Paul Jones
in the covers removed smith for 18 in Taylor Maddock’s opening over. The rain set in again
and Watchet were to lose 6 overs from their innings. On resumption of play both Dave Milton & Maddock bowled tightly with the latter picking up two further wickets with catches by himself and Milton. Milton then got in on the act firstly trapping Fayne LBW and then Dosser Norman holding one in the gully. Wookey and Strong then returned and tore the tail of the Butligh innings apart with Wookey clean bowling 3 of his victims with Milton taking his 2nd catch. The home sides final total was 126 all out. With 6 overs less to get the runs, Watchet’s reply didn’t get off to the important good start with both openers back in the pavilion with just 12 on the board. Chris Cooke and Wookey then proceeded to build a partnership of 74 in 18 overs with Cooke playing the anchor roll and Wookey the aggressor. Cooke then departed for a patient 18, which then brought Milton to partner Wookey. Wookey passed his half-century before being stumped for 55. Milton then took up as the aggressor hitting the ball hard to all areas of the ground to take the total to 117 with two overs remaining. Milton fell for an all important 25, and with 5 needed in the final over the game was finely poised. Smith then bowled Norman with his 3rd ball and Arron Deekes was left needing a 3 off the final ball but was stumped to leave the match ending in a draw. BUTLEIGH
