Watchet 1st XI v Mark 1st XI

11th June 2006

Watchet lost their second home game of the season on Saturday  going down by 16 runs to Mark in a game which saw both sides have control at various times.

Watchet were well on top  for the first two hours as Jason Strong took 2 for 23 from ten overs and Liam Woolgrove, pictured right,  1 for 25 from his twelve.

The visitors were struggling on 92 for 3 with 12 overs to go, but a quick hard hit 46 by Neil Coleman took them to a respectable 171 for 7 total. Gareth Lloyd batted with great patience through the 45 overs to frustrate Watchet and finish with an unbeaten  57.

Having successfully chased 200 runs in 33 overs the week before, Watchet started their reply with confidence, but Tim Moxey had other ideas and took 3 for 21 from a devastating 12 over spell which reduced ed Watchet to 48 for 7.

Norman Yaw’s quick 20 pushed the score to 70 but when the impressive Chris Bishop was caught by Moxey for 32, Watchet looked dead and buried.

However. Woolgrove and Andy Pyne, pictured left, put on a remarkable 50 run partnership for the ninth wicket and Watchet looked to steal victory.

Woolgrove top scored for the side with 33 before he was out. Victory was still insight as Phil Sylvester joined Pyne and they added 20, but their hopes were dashed when Pyne was run out for 30 with the Mark total still 16 runs away.

Mark: 171-7 (G Lloyd 57no, N Coleman 47, J Strong 2-23).

Watchet: 155 (L Woolgrove 33, C Bishop 32, A Pyne 30, N Yaw 20, T Moxey 3-21).

Points: Watchet 14 Mark 33
