Watchet 1st XI v Kilve 1st XI The local derby between Watchet and Kilve turned out to be a damp squib as Watchet won by 7 wickets. Watchet invited Kilve to bat first, a decision which proved to be correct when Jason Strong and Phil Sylvester took the wickets of Rock and head with only three runs on the board. Jason Strong's first spell of five overs cost just 5 runs whilst his senior partner Sylvester bowled well against his ex-team mates to concede only 12 runs from 11 overs to put Watchet in total control. Change bowlers Matt Lovell and Norman Yaw both went for 12 runs from six overs, finding taking wickets difficult on a perfect batting strip. The fourth wicket partnership of 105 between Stuart Lloyd and Dave Bettridge was the highest of the visitors' innings with Lloyd starting to hit some well timed boundaries as he approached his half century. Lloyd was dismissed for 64 in the last over following a catch by Liam Woolgrove but it was Jason Strong's moment of glory as he also dismissed Thorn and Cuff to finish with 4-34 and Kilve closed on 129-7. In reply, Watchet's Chris Sully and Martin Strong found the easy paced wicket to their liking, adding 70 runs for the second wicket in only 14 overs. Sully's temperament and fine stroke play was a joy to watch as he punished bad deliveries for boundaries and then looked for singles to keep the scoreboard moving, and it took a fine delivery from Neil Cobb to remove him. Strong complimented Sully's fine stroke play with forceful shots, although riding his luck at times, particularly when he was "caught" off a no-ball when he was 63. Clive Strong finished the game with three boundaries with Martin Strong finishing undefeated on 75 as Watchet reached 130 for the loss of three wickets. Kilve: 129-7 (S. Lloyd 64, D. Bettridge 32, J. Strong 4-34, P Sylvester 2-12). Watchet: 130-3 (M. Strong 75no, C. Sully 27, C. Strong 16no). Points: Watchet 32 Kilve 9 Kilve Innings
