Somerset Cricket League Team Of The Month for July is Ilton 1st XI

Watchet 1st XI v Horrington 1st XI

Sunday brought a 46 run home win over Horrington which put Watchet 20 points clear of South Petherton at the top of the table.

Horrington elected to bowl and took a wicket with first ball of the innings then claimed two more with the score on 24.

Matt Lovell (left) held the innings together along with Clive Strong, but when the latter went for 17 Watchet were in trouble at 53 for 4 from 16 overs.

Martin Strong and Lovell took the score to 97 before Lovell was unlucky to be bowled when the ball hit the back of his bat and then the stumps.

Again Watchet came up with a solid partnership when they needed it, Jason Strong joining his Father and putting on 40 off of eight overs before Martin was out for 40.

Jason (pictured right) then took control, pushing the ball into any available gap and notching up his first League half-century for Watchet as he steered them to a 178 for 8 total with an unbeaten 53.

In reply, Watchet's bowling was a little wayward except for the immaculate Phillip Sylvester (left), who bowled ten overs for one wicket and conceded just seven runs.

The first two wickets fell to run outs by Martin and Jason Strong.

The visitors responded with some hitting out by the middle order but they were stopped in their tracks by the left arm seam of Liam Woolgrove, who took 3 for 18.

Victory came when Philip Milton (left) took his third catch with the visitors well short on 132.

Watchet: 178-8 (J. Strong 53no, M. Strong 40, M. Lovell 26, P. Gray 3-39)

Horrington: 132 (P. Gray 29, T. Wood 25, L. Woolgrove 3-8).

Points: Watchet 32 Horrington 14
