Watchet 1st XI v Crewkerne 1st XI Played at the Memorial Ground, Watchet on Saturday 16th July 2005 Watchet were on top in all departments when they entertained Crewkerne on Saturday and won by 73 runs. Watchet decided to make first use of a hard batting track , a decision that proved correct as Chris Sully and Philip Milton put on 70 runs for the second wicket before Milton was out for a patient 32. Chris Sully, who has now made the opener's berth his own, was again in fine form and went on to hit his first half century for the first team before he was bowled for 52. As Watchet pushed up the scoring rate looking to pass the 200 mark they lost some middle order wickets to the accurate bowling of Chris Hyde but again Clive Strong produced another powerful display of hard hitting in his knock of 41 whilst Matt Lovell pushed and prodded his was to a useful 26. In reply, Crewkerne held out for ten overs with the only break through coming from Philip Sylvester. Andrew Pyne was introduced into the attack early claiming the wicket of Eglon in his first over and once Jason Strong had bowled Hyde for 23 Watchet were firm favourites to win. Andrew Pyne continued to bowl well throughout returning his best figures of the season taking 4 for 44 as he cleaned out the middle order. Ryan Strong claimed his first wicket for the first team after Adam Bishop held on to a catch in the covers and three balls later claimed his second wicket trapping Rowswell LBW, with Milton also contributing tin the wicket taking department by running out a batsmen as Crewkerne slipped to 130 for 8. Jason Strong wrapped up the game in the 36th over when he bowled Neil Crease for 22 giving the seasiders a maximum 35 points. Watchet: 228 - 9 (C. Sully 52, C. Strong 41, P. Milton 32, M.
