The function will be held at the League's Sponsor, The Shrubbery Hotel, Ilminster. The cost of the Dinner, which will include a four-course meal of a high standard and entertainment arranged by our sponsor Stuart Shepherd, will be £19.00 per ticket. There will be no speeches of a formal kind, but our guest of the evening will speak prior to presenting the prizes. There will also be representatives from the League's sponsors The Best Western Shrubbery Hotel as guests. News from the Somerset Cricket League The League received a number of applications (written and verbal) for entry into the Somerset Cricket League, for the season 2008. The Committee accepted new teams from Ashbrittle and Wookey Indians into the 1st XI Competition, while Wembdon 4th XI, Belvedere 4th XI, Cheddar 5th XI had also indicated their interest in putting in further teams. It was noted, as reported earlier, that Chew Magna had resigned from the SCL and both their 1st and 2nd XI teams will play in the B & D in 2008. It was noted that Stogumber had also made enquiries about membership of the SCL, but had not put forward any formal application.
The Committee discussed the composition of the divisions for season 2008, but was unable to make any firm predictions until the season terminates. The Committee considered a number of options for both the 1st and 2nd XI competitions and decided to offer Ashbrittle a place in Division 3 (note – Chew Magna will leave the League and create a space at the top of the structure) and Wookey Indians a place in Division 6. The Committee felt that the experiment of putting Taunton St. Andrews 3rd XI in Division 5 had been a positive move and that it should now be in a position to extend this arrangement with some of the other ‘big' clubs. Accordingly, invitations will go out to Taunton, Uphill Castle, Cheddar and Wembdon to move one of their teams from the 2nd XI to the 1st XI Competition. Places for Cheddar 5th XI, Wembdon 4th XI and Belvedere 4th XI could then be accommodated in the 2nd XICompetition if those clubs wish to make their verbal application to join a formal one. The Hon. Secretary was empowered to talk to all the clubs involved and move the process forward within the constraints of the Committee's discussion. The Committee confirmed that it would continue to use the Standard Cricket Ball. No formal complaints had been received and generally it was felt that the Crusader ball had performed well. It was suggested by some members that two balls should be used wherever possible as it was quite a lot to expect that a modestly priced ball should last for 90 overs in a pristine condition. The Committee agreed to use the same Crusader ball in season 2008. Weather spoils more fixtures Yet more bad weather led to both 1st and 2nd XI fixtures being cancelled. Butleigh did manage to beat North Newton who were skittled out for 66 chasing 164. This was Butleigh's 11 victory of the season.

Replacing his brother, Ryan Strong started well playing some nice shots before getting bowled. Replaced by his Father, Martin the Watchet innings sprung to life. Strong Senior started to hit well including one delightful six. This caused the Whitchurch captain to spread the field giving Watchet the chance of more ones and twos.

Liam Woolgrove then joined Edward Martin who then became the next victim of the Whitchurch attack being caught behind for 61. Nick Virgin was trapped LBW.
