1st XI Lose away to Mark

Batting first Watchet made 200 all out with Phil Sylvester being stumped off of the last ball of the innings.

 

Mark reached their target for the loss of 4 wickets.

2nd XI Win at Huish & Langport

Batting first Huish & Langport posted a score of 222 for 6 with Liam Ryan playing a steady openers role. The wickets were shared amongst the Watchet bowlers. There were also two run outs.

 

Watchet's innings started disastrously, of the first four wickets to fall the outgoing batsmen totalled one run. Clive Strong and Andrew Pyne had a 99 run partnership which saved the day with important contributions from the Bowden brothers and Nigel Merrick.

 

Clive Strong hit 96 and Andrew Pyne hit a career best 44.

 

Club Day 2006

The annual club day match will take place on Sunday 13th August. The day will start at 2.30pm with an inter club match between Fathers and Sons. This will be followed by a barbeque.

 

1st XI Lose at South Petherton

Despite a four wicket haul from Matt Lovell and a fifty from Jamie Milton Watchet could not beat the target set by South Petherton.

 

2nd XI lose at home to Ilminster "A"

Batting first the 2nd XI scored 217. Ilminster knocked them off for the loss of seven wickets. Hight points for the 2nds were a fifty for David Milton, 37 for Andrew Martin, 33 for Andrew Norman and four wickets for Nigel Merrick.

Tayler Maddock, playing in his first 1st XI game of the season, was inform with the ball and Matt Lovell with bat as Watchet beat Fitzhead at the Memorial ground.

 

2nd XI lose at Long Sutton

Despite good bowling performances from David Milton and Danny Williams, Long Suttons 238 runs proved too much for the 2nds. Andrew Norman, after a life, made an excellent 47. 1st XI superb away win by 6 wickets

The 1st XI playing away at Belvedere came away with a fine 6 wicket victory. Batting first Belvedere scored 201 for 8. Norman Yaw, left, took 4 for 46.

 

In reply Watchet opener Adam Bishop scored 44 and skipper Martin Strong 74.

The seconds hosted top of the table Huish & Langport and couldn't knock off the required 161 runs. The picture on the right shows Watchet's Liam Woolgrove just making his ground after taking a sharp single.

At nets on Friday, former butter fingers award winner, Philip Milton demonstrated his legendary catching ability with very painful results.

Watchet 1st XI lose at home to South Petherton

South Petherton batted first and thanks to an excellent spell of bowling by Matt Lovell, who took 5 wickets as South Petherton slumped to 36 for 7. However they rallied to finish their innings on 93.

Watchet 2nd XI still unbeaten with third consecutive win

Watchet 2nd XI travelled to Ilminster and came away with a fine victory. Batting first Watchet scored 161 all out. Veterans Peter Manley and Dave Milton were in fine form with the bat scoring 86 and 21 respectively.

 

In reply Ilminster "A" mustered 129 with Chris Wookey (right) taking 4 for 49 and Tayler Maddock taking 3 for 27.

Watchet 1st XI opened their home campaign with a 5 wicket victory against Hardington & West Coker. After winning the toss the visitors decided to have first knock and scored 156 for 8. E Knibbs top scored with 37. Liam Woolgrove bowled well for Watchet picking up 4 for 37.

 

In reply, Watchet reached the required total for the loss of five wickets . Skipper Martin Strong, pictured left, top scored with 69 and was out with only two runs needed for victory.

1st XI Lose to Fitzhead by 114 runs

The First XI sporting their new Motorline sponsored shirts lost away at Fitzhead by 114 runs. Watchet had the better of the opening exchanges limiting them to 31 runs of the first 15 overs. Phillip Slyvester and Jason Strong bowled exceptionally well on a helpful pitch. However Maurice and Darren Burns both completed half centuries (81 & 79 respectively) and Fitzhead finished their allotted 45 overs with a total of 243 for 5. Sixty year old Alan Summers weighed in with a quick 34 at the end of the Fitzhead innings. Jason Strong took 2 for 37.  Watchet were bowled out for 129 with Martin Strong making 31 including taking 18 off of one over. Maurice Burns took 3 wickets for 4 runs and debutant Luke Thomas took 2 for 35. Watchet gained 11 points.

In Division 2 There were wins for Whictchurch, Burnham, Fitzhead, South Petherton and Belvedere. Out of the losers only Mark, who got five points, picked up less points than Watchet.

 

2nd XI Beat Long Sutton by 1 wicket

The first match on the Memorial Ground of the 2006 season saw the 2nd XI beat Long Sutton by 1 wicket. Batting first Long Sutton scored 151 for 6 in their 45 overs. Watchet replied with 152 for 9 to win by one wicket. Watchet gained 33 points for the victory. To view the match report click here.

Watchet 2ndXI are already 63 points ahead of Wincanton who were awarded minus 30 points for cancelling their away match with Ashcott & Shapwick.

Division Three News

South Petherton lost their final match of the season but still finished at Champions leaving Watchet in the runners up position. Sixteen points separate the Champions and runners up.

 

2nd XI Return to wining ways at Peasedown

The second XI returned to wining form at Peasedown yesterday. Batting first Peasedown were all out for 135. The 2's knocked them off for the loss of just four wickets. A mature unbeaten knock by Chris Wookey with support from Peter Manley, Adam Bishop and Edward Martin saw Watchet to their target. To view the final league table click here

2nd XI Lose at home to Winscombe

Winscombe took first knock in this match and accumulated 240 for 5 in their allotted overs. In reply the 2's were all out for 179 and picked up 13 points.  With four teams going down Watchet need to win away at Peasedown next Saturday and the results from other matches to go in their favour to avoid the drop. 1st XI crash at South Petherton

Watchet crashed to 85 all out at South Petherton blowing the opportunity to take the Third Division title. However, the six points required to secure automatic promotion were achieved.

 

South Petherton guaranteed themselves promotion from Division Three when they beat Watchet, who before the start of play topped the table by eight wickets.

 

Batting first the visitors were all out for 85 in 28 overs. Martin Strong and Liam Woolgrove both scored 20 each, whilst for the hosts Gary Salter took 3 for 13 and and Darren Anderton 3 for 22.

 

In reply Petherton reach their target for the loss of two wickets in twenty three overs. Opener Gary Walmsley carried his bat for 32 and Gary Pride scoring  a fine 31.

 

 

Division Three News

Huish and Langport entertained North Newton at their Field Road ground. Batting first Huish and Langport scored 190 for 9, thanks to Phil Curd who top scored with 36. North Newton could only muster 173 for 8 their by giving Huish and Langport a victory by 17 runs.

 

Bagborough and Crewkerne are relegated to Division 4

Jason Strong will be playing today for Somerset Under 15s against Yorkshire in the National Finals after winning their semi-final match in Northampton yesterday.

Watchet go to the top of the Division 3 Table after their winning weekend for the first time this season, albeit having played a game more than South Petherton.

 

Winning Double for Watchet

Watchet's 1st XI kept their promotion hopes very much alive from the weekend's back to back fixtures claiming 68 out of a possible 70 points. On Saturday Tintinhull were beaten by 7 wickets and Horrington were beaten by 46 runs on Sunday with Jason Strong (pictured right) scoring a vital debut half century.

Watchet 1st XI have Tintinhull in trouble

In yesterday's home match against Tintinull the visitors batted first and were soon in trouble in the inclement weather. During the first rain break they were 17 for 5. Just after play resumed Norman Yaw picked up two more wickets aided by catches from Phillip Sylvester and Martin Strong.

South Petherton stay top after beating Kilve

South Petherton are still the leaders in Division Three after recording an 86 run victory over visitors Kilve, in a match that was reduced to 35 overs a side.

Batting First Petherton were all out for 147 in the final over of their innings, with Gary Fry top scoring with 50, while for the visitors there two wickets each for Mark Jones and Carl Clemenson.

1st XI in 33 point away victory at Banwell & Churchill

Watchet had an excellent 8 wicket away win at Banwell & Churchill on Saturday to hang on to second spot in Division Three. South Petherton are now only 7 points in front of Watchet and Watchet are 9 points ahead of third placed Huish & Langport. Read the report

 

South Petherton beat Bagborough by 7 wickets

Division Three leaders South Petherton retained their top of the table position when they travelled to second from bottom Bagborough and came away with a seven wicket victory.

 

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Bagborough were all out for 107 in the 42nd over with visiting captain Kevin Harris taking 3 for 17.

 

In reply Petherton reached their target in the 41st over, thanks to Owen Brown who top scored with 38.

 

2nd XI lose at home to Wembdon by 118 runs

Wembdon batted first and scored 233 for 4 off of their 45 overs with one of their openers scoring a century. Watchet were 115 for 9 at the close leaving Wembdon to claim the spoils of victory by 118 runs.
