 Horrington 1st XI v Watchet 1st XI

After losing their unbeaten run last weekend Watchet bounced back to winning ways, claiming maximum points in a six wicket away victory to Horrington.

Horrington batted first and Watchet were in control straight away, restricting the batsmen to 30 runs from 16 overs, Philip Sylvester bowled 8 overs for 18 runs but opening bowler Matt Lovell put in an impressive performance conceeding only 14 runs from 12 overs and was very unfortunate not to take a wicket.

Liam Woolgrove picked up 3 for 27 from eight overs and Andy Pyne 2 for 21from his six overs.

In search for runs Horrington gave Watchet three run outs with direct hits from Martin Strong and John Harris, who also assisted in the third run out by making an excellent stop on the boundary and then returning the ball quickly to keeper Clive Strong.

Horrington's Martin Coppell blasted 29 runs from the last three overs to give his side the more respectable total of 137 for 5 from 45 overs.

Watchet made a steady but slow reply with Philip Milton batting nearly 20 overs, making sure that Watchet's big hitters were protected from the main bowlers.

After an absence of 14 years from Watchet, Steve Baker returned and looked in good for before being caught on the boundary.

With 70 runs needed from 15 overs the game was evenly poised but with Clive Strong and John Harris at the crease and both hitting well, the game was all over in the next six overs. Strong hit five 4s on the trot then followed that by hitting three 6s on the trot next over. Not to be outdone, Harris hit the church tower with a big hit over mid-off.

Harris (21) hit the winning runs with Strong collecting his third half century of the season.

Horrington: 137 (M. Coppell 29no, L. Woolgrove 3 -27, A. Pyne 2 - 27).

Watchet: 138 - 4 (C. Strong 64mo, J.Harris21 no).

Points: Horrington 10 Watchet 35
