Fitzhead v Watchet 1st XI
After making a return to Division Two, Watchet found out there many improvements to be made if they are to make any impact on the season as they were out played by local rivals Fitzhead on Saturday.
Phil Sylvester carried on his form from last year by bowling 12 overs straight off for only 24 runs and hid young understudy Jason Strong's first spell cost only eight runs from five overs.
After 24 overs Fitzhead had only scored 65 runs but had only lost two wickets, which brought Maurice and Darren Burns together to form a hard hitting third wicket partnership. This turned the game totally in the home side's favour.
Maurice Burns went on to score 81 with Darren finally bowled for 79 and it was left to veteran Alan Summers to hammer the tiring bowlers and fielders with a rapid undefeated 34 to leave the final total on 242 for 5.
Watchet went for the victory from the off and had 70 on the board from only 17 overs, but had lost three wickets in doing so.
Chris Sully top scored for Watchet with a mature 33 and Martin Strong's quick 31 had given Watchet a good start.
When Clive Strong was bowled by man of the match Maurice Burns for a hard earned 29, victory was all Fitzhead's with Maurice finishing with figures of 3 for 4.
Fitzhead: 242 for 5 (M Burns 81, D Burns 79, A Summers 34 no, J Strong 2-37, A Pyne 2-55)
Watchet: 129 (C Sully 33, M Strong 31, C Strong 29, M Burns 3-4, L Thomas 2-35)
Points: Fitzhead 35 Watchet 1st XI 11
