Chard "A" v Watchet 2ndXI Watchet continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive 85 run victory away to Chard A that takes them joint top of the table at this early point of the season. Having lost the toss openers Andy Norman and Pete Manley gave their side a steady start, moving the score to 62 before Manley lost his stumps in the 17th over. Several batsmen then came and went before the returning Chris Wookey stabilised the innings with Norman, smashing a hard-hit 38 before he was bowled by one that kept a bit low. Norman continued serenely on, throttling back upon reaching his fifty and letting his fresher compatriots take on the big hitting duties whilst grabbing singles with a selection of well-placed shots. A cameo 33 not out from David Milton boosted Watchet to a highly competitive 232 for 6, with Norman batting through the innings for an unbeaten 90. With a mammoth task ahead of them Chard never really got going in the run chase, despite Watchet's bowling being a touch wayward at times. In light drizzle and darkening conditions they managed to achieve a score of 147 for 7, a long way short of Watchet's total. Pick of the bowlers was Wookey, taking 3 for 23 off 10 overs, with fellow opener Ryan Strong going for a frugal 17 off his 8 overs. Top opposition batsman was Stoodley with 37 before he was bowled by Warren Knight, with Mr Extras second with 35. Watchet II: 232-6 (A Norman 90*, C Wookey 38, D Milton 33*) Chard A: 147-7 (G Stoodley 37, C Wookey 3-23) Points: Watchet II 32, Chard A 13
