Bagborough 1st XI v Watchet 1st XI Making the short trip to Bagborough on Saturday, Watchet had very little trouble in beating the home side by five wickets. Bagborough batted first on their small picturesque ground making steady progress but never accelerating throughout their innings. The early batsmen looked in fine form for the home team with Bishop and Redford both scoring 38, Redford being unfortunate to be run out when bowler Andy Pyne touched the ball on to the stumps at the non-striking end. Philip Sylvester bowled well taking 2 for 19 and was supported in the middle of Bagborough's innings by lean spells from Norman Yaw, Liam Woolgrove and the spin of Andrew Pyne who conceeded only 22 runs from nine overs. Replying to the home team's total of 176 for 6, Watchet made a good start from their in-form youthful top order. Adam Bishop made a quick 15 before being caught. Chris Sully and Philip Milton put on fifty for the second wicket. Sully again produced some joyful straight drives in his 37, whilst Philip Milton played Watchet's anchorman role. With some quick boundaries from Clive Strong and John Harris Watchet soon found themselves within 45 runs of victory. Mason, then claimed three middle order wickets to give Bagborough some hope of a surprise win, only to find they couldn't get through Milton's defence as he nudged his way to a hard earned first half century of the season. Jason Strong looked in fine form stroking the ball to all parts of the ground to finish undefeated on 26 and Milton undefeated on 63 as they put the winning touches on Watchet's eighth victory of the season. Bagborough: 176-6 (J. Bishop 38, P. Redford 38, M. Minchen 20, P.Sylvester 2-19). Watchet: 178-5 (P. Milton 63no, C. Sully 37, J. Strong 26no, Mason 3-45). Points: Bagborough 13 Watchet 31.
