Ashbrittle v Watchet 31st May 2006
Watchet defeated Ashbrittle by 7 wickets to progress to the next round of the Baker plate. Electing to
bat first Ashbrittle got off to a steady start and had managed to be
84-1 off of 14 overs. However as they attempted to up the pace Father
and son duo of Martin Strong and Jason Strong stifled the possible flow
of runs and restricted Ashbrittle to 104-8, with Martin picking up 3-27
from his 5 overs and Jason picking up 3-28 including the dangerous
wicket of A Hill for 42. The Watchet reply got off to patient start and Adam Bishop departed with the score on 20 for a useful 14, this brought Clive Strong to the crease who eventually settled and started to stroke the ball around, Chris Sully, pictured left, then fell to the bowling of M Hill being caught on the boundary for 19, with score on 42-2 after 10. Upon this the big hitting John Harris made his way to the crease and with this the partnership flourished. Eventually Clive was bowled for 30, but the game was pretty much sewn up then with Watchet requiring 10 runs to win in 3 overs, which left Jason Strong and Harris to finish their opponents off. Harris hit the only maximum of the Watchet innings and ended up on 25no. Ashbrittle: 104-8 (A Hill 42, M Strong 2-27, J. Strong 3-28) Watchet: 105-3 (C Strong 30, J Harris 25no)
