Watchet 2nd XI v Chard "A" XI Watchet 2nd XI enjoyed a successful weekend to take them top of the table. On a dull and damp Saturday they entertained Chard A in a match that contained all the good things about cricket. Losing the toss the hosts were asked to bat and got off to a poor start losing Manley when the score was only 3. This brought together Ben Saddington and Martin Ketchin, and both returned to the form that had deserted them the previous week. The pair added 84 runs before Saddington was caught off the bowling of veteran Dave Crew. With Ketchin now in dominant mode and the other Watchet batsman chipping in with useful runs, the total had passed 200 before Ketchin was out L.B.W for 89 off 105 balls to secure maximum bonus points and a final total of 221 for 6. With the weather closing in after tea, Watchet's opening bowling pair of Dave Milton and Norman Yaw whizzed though the overs at an alarming pace and with great accuracy to reduce the visitors to 53 for 4 after 23 overs. Andrew Martin, Andy Pyne and Karl Manley kept up the momentum all picking up wickets, and as the rain became harder and with Chard Keeper Chris Sweetland finding it difficult to see through his glasses, the visitors sae the game to its conclusion where a lot of sides would have headed to the pavilion. Chards innings finished 83 runs short with 8 wickets down giving the home side 33 points. Watchet 2nd XI Innings
