Watchet 2nd XI v Cheddar Colts
Watchet 2nd XI remain top of the table after a116 run victory against Cheddar Colts. Batting first on a drying track the home side rattled up their highest total of the season of 293 for 5. 100 was reached by the 16 th over with only the loss of Ben Saddington for 11. Martyn Ketchin was the next to fall after a fine innings of 47. Clive Strong now joined Pete Manley and they kept the score board rattling along passing the 200 mark with 12 overs remaining before Manley fell for 62. Strong now hitting the ball like his old self eventually was bowled for 74 and with a late flurry from Dave Milton a formidable total was set. In reply Haining holed out to Gary Trunks with the first ball of the innings to give the home side the perfect start. Now with Andrew Martin, Nigel Merrick and then Trunks bowling tightly, the visitors score only moved on at a snails pace, as 50 was not reached until the 21 st over. Then with Andy Pyne picking up wickets at regular intervals to leave Cheddar at 95 for 7, with young 13-year-old opening batsman J. Bamber still at the crease and now joined by his father, Watchet introduced “strike bowler” Pete Manley to the fray and both batsmen did strike him to all parts of the ground to finish on 177 for 7 with Bamber junior finishing undefeated on 61.
