Wembdon v Watchet

played at Wembdon Saturday 26th April 2008

On the warmest day of the year so far Watchet travelled to Wembdon for this preseason forty over match.

Batting first, on an understandably soft and slow pitch Wembdon made steady progress against Watchet openening bowlers Dominic Bowden and Matt Lovell. Lovell bowled very well but finished wicketless. Bowden picked up the first wicket supported with a catch by Philip Milton.

The Wembdon batsmen then started to take charge.

A wicket each Aaron Nunn and Martin Strong together with three wickets for Carl Manley were the positives but the fielding and catching were below par.

Wembdon posted a total of over 170 which was always going to be a challenge.

Watchet Openers Edward Martin & Peter ManleyOpeners Pete Manley and Edward Martin (pictured left) got of to a good but slow start before Manley was trapped LBW. Philip Milton was bowled first ball and Matt Bowden was also bowled for a duck inthe same over leaving Watchet in trouble.

Martin Strong joined Martin and a short-lived revival started. Strong batting in his usual positive style took the score into the sixtys before being caught for 17.

Martin soon followed caught in the gully for 24.

The Watchet tail failed to wag and Watchet were all out with out reaching the 100 leaving Wembdon easy victors.
